Kisasa, Mukonzhi and Kankonzhi set for Independence Tournament finals

The 2026 FQM Trident Interschools Independence Tournament reaches its climax on Saturday, with Kisasa contesting both the primary and secondary school finals at Sentinel Grounds.

In the Primary School final, Kisasa will face Mukonzhi, while the Secondary School final will see Kisasa take on Kankonzhi, setting up an exciting conclusion to weeks of competition involving schools from across Kalumbila District.

Kisasa will be aiming to complete a memorable tournament by claiming honours in both categories, while Mukonzhi and Kankonzhi will be looking to finish their respective campaigns with the title.

The finals follow a competitive tournament that has brought together 37 schools, an increase from 34 in the previous edition.

The growth reflects the expanding reach of the competition and the opportunities it provides for learners to participate in organised football.

Defending champions Chitungu Primary and Chovwe Secondary will not feature in this year's final matches, leaving the competing schools with an opportunity to claim the respective titles.

Played under the theme “A Kick for Safety,” the tournament promotes youth participation in football while encouraging discipline, teamwork, respect and responsible conduct among learners.

The competition also forms part of the wider grassroots football development efforts of Sentinel Football Academy, supported by FQM Trident Limited.

Through school football, the initiative seeks to identify promising young players and create opportunities for them to develop their abilities while continuing their education.

Saturday's event begins at 08h30 at Sentinel Grounds, with the Primary School final scheduled for 10h00, followed by the Secondary School final at 11h15.

Awards, medals, trophies and sports kits will be presented to schools after the matches.

Members of the public, parents and football supporters are invited to attend and support the young footballers as they compete for the tournament's top honours.

With two titles to be decided and 37 schools having contributed to this year's competition, the finals promise a fitting conclusion to the 2026 FQM Trident Interschools Independence Tournament.
