Defending primary school champions Chitungu and Kanzala have booked their places in the next round of the 2026 FQM Trident Interschools Independence Tournament after securing victories on day three at Kisasa on Sunday.
Kanzala edged Musanda 1–0 in a closely contested second-round encounter, with Jacky Kayongo scoring the decisive goal from the penalty spot.
Kayongo had earlier been on target as Kanzala opened their campaign with a 2–0 victory over Malombo, with Elisha Mwebela also finding the net.
Defending champions Chitungu also progressed after overcoming Kambishi 2–0, with Grivan Kayongo scoring twice, including one goal from the penalty spot.
Chitungu's route into the second round came after they were reinstated as the tournament's best loser. Kachiwezhi failed to turn up for their scheduled fixture against Kambishi, resulting in points being awarded for the no-show.
Musanda had earlier defeated Chitungu 1–0, with Jackson Stalongo scoring the only goal.
Six schools have now secured places in the next phase of the competition, with Kashikuwe, Chovwe, Mbole, Musele, Kanzala and defending champions Chitungu all advancing after the opening three days.
The competition enters its second week on Friday, 25 September, when Group Four and Group Five begin their matches, with further fixtures scheduled for Saturday, 26 September.
The 2026 FQM Trident Interschools Independence Tournament features 37 schools competing under the theme “A Kick for Safety”, with the competition set to culminate in the final on 17 October.
