The FQM Trident Interschools Independence Tournament produced another day of knockout drama on Saturday as schools battled for places in the latter stages of the competition in Musele.
Defending Primary School champions Chitungu progressed to the quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Kashikuwe, with Griven Kasongo scoring both goals.
Kanzala also secured a place in the quarter-finals after overcoming Kasanzhi on penalties following a 1–1 draw in regulation time.
Adrian Kasepa put Kasanzhi on the scoresheet before Jack Kayongo levelled for Kanzala.
Kanzala eventually prevailed 6–5 in the shootout to book their place in the last eight.
The day's other knockout action also saw Kisasa progress after another penalty shootout, edging Chovwe 5–4 following a 1–1 draw.
Christon Kakoma scored for Kisasa, with Prince Mandala finding the net for Chovwe before Kisasa held their nerve from the spot to advance.
The tournament continues on Sunday, 4 October, with two Secondary School fixtures in Kisasa.
Defending Secondary School champions Chovwe take on Jiwundu while Luanvundu will face Chitungu.
The remaining schools continue their pursuit of places in the semi-finals and ultimately the 17 October finals.
The 2026 tournament features 37 schools and is being played under the theme “A Kick for Safety.”
