Kisasa join Kankonzhi in semi-finals as knockout action continues

Kisasa have joined Kankonzhi in the semi-finals of the FQM Trident Interschools Independence Tournament after edging Mukonzhi 1–0 after extra time in the Secondary School category in Jiwundu on Friday.

The two sides could not be separated after 90 minutes before Bestone Muloya converted a penalty in extra time to send Kisasa through to the semi-finals.

Kisasa now join Kankonzhi, who had earlier secured their semi-final place with a 6–0 win over tournament debutants Kalumbila in the opening Secondary School fixture at Kisasa.

The Primary School knockout stage also produced drama at Jiwundu, with Mukonzhi advancing to the quarter-finals after overcoming Mbole 5–2 on penalties following a 1–1 draw in regulation time.

John Katana gave Mukonzhi the lead before Sam Kanema levelled for Mbole. Neither side could find a winner in normal time, sending the contest to a penalty shootout.

Mukonzhi held their nerve from the spot to win 5–2 and secure their place in the last eight. Musele also booked their place in the Primary School quarter-finals with a narrow 1–0 victory over Mutuuba.

Baldwin Sosala scored the decisive goal to settle the contest and send Musele through to the next round.

The tournament continues on Saturday, 3 October, with three Primary School knockout fixtures in Musele.

Kashikuwe face defending champions Chitungu, Chovwe take on Kisasa, while Kasanzhi meet Kanzala.

The three matches will further shape the Primary School quarter-final line-up as the knockout stage gathers pace.
