Week Two brings fresh battles as Independence Tournament resumes

The FQM Trident Interschools Independence Tournament returns this weekend with three days of action, with the Secondary School category among the teams set to take to the field as the competition enters its second week.

The weekend programme runs from Friday, 25 September to Sunday, 27 September, with matches scheduled across Musele, Jiwundu and Kisasa.

The Secondary School fixtures will be played on Sunday in Kisasa, with Jiwundu facing Musele before Kalumbila Secondary take on Kankonzhi.

Primary School action will headline Friday, with Group Four matches in Musele. Jiwundu will face Kisasa in the opening fixture, followed by Nkisu against Mutuuba, with matches kicking off from 09h00.

The Primary School category continues on Saturday, 26 September, when Group Five takes centre stage in Jiwundu. Munkonzhi will meet Wanyinwa, Kasanzhi will face Shalamba, while Nyasowe take on Luanvundu.

The tournament returns following an opening week that saw six schools secure places in the next phase, with Kashikuwe, Chovwe, Mbole, Musele, Kanzala and defending champions Chitungu advancing.

With more schools now beginning their campaigns, the second week will provide another opportunity for teams to secure their places in the knockout stages.

The 2026 tournament features 37 schools and is being played under the theme “A Kick for Safety”, with the finals scheduled for 17 October.
